TLDR: The Fed veers hawkish, Quantitative Tightening is going ahead full steam, markets wobble, we have an ongoing bank funk, and PMIs keep falling. It’s not a bad moment to look at the greenback.
Markets’ recent turbulence is a good reminder that we’re in a transitional period. We come out of the greatest and longest bull market in US equities and some adjustments are warranted.
Banks are in a funk? That’s not the beginning and neither the end of the adjustment. If you look at the whole picture, you have falling EPS, falling PMIs, falling liquidity. The only thing that’s rising is rates.
So maybe it’s not a bad time to begin looking at the USD, especially if your holdings are in other currencies. Those 10y Treasuries look even better.
